Corporate & Social Responsibility

Total Parco is essentially concerned in building a relationship of care and trust with its customers. By focusing on the ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ Campaigns the company is trying to associate itself with attributes of care and trust.

Reduce The Risk Of Spreading Flu

In light of the recent Swine Flu pandemic a special leaflet focusing on the preventive measures that can be taken for both the Avian and Swine flu was developed for distribution on our forecourts The leaflets were developed in English & Urdu for widespread comprehension.

CNG & Safety Go Together

CNG is a clean and environment friendly fuel, but since it is fillied at a very high pressure it requires special attention to avoid any associated risk. Total Parco launched its first ever safety awareness campaign on CNG at its service stations by guiding customers on the inportance of periodic inspection of the CNG kit installations/ cylinders in their vehicles. For this purpose, a specially developed leaflet was handed out at our service stations across the network.

Let's Protect Ourselves

In keeping with our policy of being a socially responsible company, TPPL launched an informative leaflet on the causes, signs and prevention of Malaria, a disease that kills nearly 1 million people a year.

Total Road Champ

As part of our CSR activities for the year we arranged to have children from various local schools visit one of our nearby retail stations and learn about the business in detail. In addition to this they are also taught about road safety & HSE. For this purpose a special cartoon character known as the "Total Road Champ" was created.

The idea of having a cartoon character came about as a way of retaining the children's interest in the subject. By focusing on the character they would pay attention to all the rules, tips and measures that would be imparted.

On arrival, the children are divided into two groups. One group is given a tour of the site while the second is given a presentation on HSE standards and road safety along with a demonstration of basic first aid and proper disposal of oil. The site tour focuses on the various facilities offered at the site such as regular fueling (super, diesel), car wash, tire shop, sun wash etc. Each of these features are explained in a manner that is uncomplicated and appealing to children.

In this manner we create awareness for and promote our image as a socially conscious company. During our various trips we have received coverage from local news channels and various letters of thanks and acknowledgement from the schools that have participated in the campaign. In December 2007, The Total Road Champ concept won a special transportability Prize in the sustainable development category in the IDEAS 2007 competition held within the Total Group.

Activate Drive Safe

TOTAL Parco Pakistan Limited launched its first road safety campaign, "Activate Drive Safe" on April 7, 2006. A moving campaign that sought greater national consumer awareness on safety procedures, it was a huge first step for Total Parco. The campaign utilized all media in varying degrees and was launched on a network of 118 retail stations.

The "Drive Safe" concept has proven to be a true image builder for Total Parco  justifying its corporate slogan of "TOTAL Care, TOTAL Trust". The primary objective of the campaign was to work on the behaviour of the vehicle drivers especially the youth. Using emotive imagery and matching words, it sought to make the drivers aware of their responsibility in a major way and help them to change their driving habits.

The ads simply but surely drove home the messages: "Wear a seat-belt", "Stop at a red light" and "Do not use a mobile phone while driving".

The distribution of free helmets, T-shirts and stickers on the network through an "activate your luck" promotion also added to the overall effect of the campaign and earned immense goodwill for the company.

Eleven renowned colleges of Pakistan were invited to join a contest organized by Total Parco. Four winners were named Road Safety Ambassadors through their individual creation of safety posters. The contest proved a great launching pad for the four Road Safety Ambassadors as they received tremendous media coverage.

Total Parco as a unit believes in the message that it was preaching, and the campaign kicked off with the senior management of Total Parco signing a declaration in a press conference to abide by the safety rules laid out in the campaign.

A safety award was proposed by the Group Safety steering committee, mainly pointing out a remarkable action as best practice in safety recognition. Apart from this, many governmental and non-governmental organizations including the Motorway Police have also appreciated this campaign.

SunWash

November 2005 saw Total Parco coming up with a unique way of cleaning cars – SunWash, powered by solar energy. The world with a fast diminishing energy resource, today, faces the challenge of coming up with newer and better sources of energy. SunWash, a new and exciting initiative taken by Total Parco, gives the country an alternative source of energy that will be most significant in the years to come.

The concept of SunWash is based on an innovative technology, which uses the sun's rays to heat the water needed for washing. Total Parco has earned the distinction of being the first OMC in Pakistan to introduce a facility of this kind. Some of the prominent features of SunWash are:

  • it gives your car a better shine and glow as it utilizes hot water
  • it frees your car of all the stubborn oil and mud stains that a normal carwash cannot remove
  • it provides a better under body, radiator/ engine and mudguard wash
  • SunWash is environment friendly since there is no wastage of natural gas and there is a minimum use of water, as compared to a regular car wash

The first SunWash facility was launched in Lahore at Bahoo filling station in Garden Town with the tagline "The Sun at Your Service."

The second SunWash Facility was introduced in Rawalpindi in November 2006. It was in line to a collaboration between Total Parco and GTZ to provide quality solar water heaters at selected Total Parco's Car Wash faclitiy.

GTZ's and AEDB's made a joint commitment with Total Parco to impart technical expertise to the local manufacturers and contractors of Pakistan. The efficient handling of the Solar Water Heaters from design stage till the installation has set the pace for future projects.

Earthquake Relief

In the wake of the devastating earthquake which struck Pakistan on October 8th 2005, Total Parco was one of the first to answer the call of those affected. The total donations made by Total Parco and Total S.A. to various organizations such as the Red Cross and the Edhi foundation amounted to Rs.13 Million. In order to involve dealers and customers alike towards the relief effort, Total Parco launch a campaign entitled "Your Refill Can Save a Life" in which for every purchase of fuel Total Parco and its dealers contributed a certain percentage of their margin towards the relief fund. In addition to this Total Parco also provided logistical support to the French convoy delivering relief goods to the affected areas. Several Total Parco employees travelled to the affected areas to assist in the relief efforts

Total Children's Park

In 2003, Total Parco set up a retail station, to be operated by the city district government of Lahore. The site is adjacent to a children's hospital as such one of the proviso's for the city government to grant use of the land as a retail station was that the company make some sort of positive contribution towards the children's hospital. We at Total decided to renovate a small park directly in front of the children's hospital so that the children being treated at the hospital and those visiting patients would have a place to relax and enjoy themselves.

The park was renovated with additional plants and swings along with colourful Total branding. The park still stands today, as a testament to our commitment of going beyond our core business and integrating ourselves with the community.

Total Beach Cleaning

Network Sales Karachi conducted a unique activity in collaboration with WWF Pakistan on 21st July 2007. The staff from all Total offices and selected retail outlets in Karachi carried out beach cleaning activities under the supervision of WWF wetland centre. This particular stretch of beach at Sands pit Karachi is ecologically very sensitive because of the abundance of biodiversity here. Many sea turtles come here to lay their eggs and hundreds of picnic makers visit the beach every day.

During the day, the Total team not only removed heaps of trash left by visitors but also educated them about the hazards posed by their careless behaviour to the ecology of this beach. To make sure that this message reaches a wider audience, a local TV channel was also engaged to cover and telecast this event. It was an extremely interesting activity that not only accomplished an important conservational objective but also brought the Total family together in a spirit of teamwork.
